When writing a “Headteacher resignation letter to parents,” these are some of the things that you need to keep in mind.
It’s with true sadness that I write you this letter advising you of my resignation from my role as head teacher at Washington High School. My past 15 years of teaching at WHS have been nothing short of rewarding and I’ve always planned to make this my lifelong career. Unfortunately, though, I must take time away from teaching this year to focus on restoring my health and taking care of myself.
I’m so thankful for the opportunity I had to work at WHS and become an integral part of the academic community here. Working with your children has changed my life for the better—they’re incredible, capable students who have amazed me each day with their curiosity and creativity. I’ll always keep my memories of teaching your children close to my heart and look back fondly upon all the experiences I’ve had.
Due to the unique nature of my situation, I was able to play an active role in selecting my successor. After the holidays, Mr. Jonathon Burt will assume my position and begin working as your children’s social studies instructor. Mr. Burt comes to WHS from the middle school in our neighboring town and has an impressive teaching background in liberal arts subjects like language arts and history. He is excited to get to know your children over the second half of the school year and I’m confident that he’ll be a superb addition to the faculty at WHS.
I appreciate each of you and your understanding. I’ll genuinely miss all of my students and I wish you all the best as you move forward in your education and lives. If you’d like to contact me with any questions or concerns, please email me directly at msooner@email.com or call the school office at 555-291-2233.
Please accept my resignation letter from the post headteacher with the school (school name). My last day of school would be (Date: DD/MM/YY). (Describe in your words). I decided to resign because of my Family requirement for which I have to shift to my native town. (Describe actual cause and situation).
It was indeed a pleasure working in your school for the last couple of years. I highly appreciate the support and guidance I received from your good self and my colleagues and other school staff during my stay here. (Describe your appreciation and gratefulness).
I have developed very close bonding with my students and colleagues, which I will always keep in my memories. (Cordially describe your greetings and requirements). This is a very emotional decision on my end and I would miss working with such a wonderful team. I wish the school all the best in future endeavors.

I am writing this letter to officially notify you that I will be resigning from my current position as a headteacher at Westway Elementary School. My last day of work will be June 20th, 2022. I will be taking a different position here, in Beverly Hills. I have already informed the management and fellow staff members of my decision. We will be working together to make this transition as smooth as possible.
Teaching at Westway Elementary has been a genuine pleasure and has provided me with many valuable professional relationships. If you have any questions or require more information, you can reach me by phone, or by email at: franhill@email.com.
Thank you for your time.
I write to inform you that, after 4 years as a Headteacher at Pontygwaith I will be leaving at the end of this academic year.
The reason I am leaving is to move to Singapore with my family. My wife has secured an exciting, new job in a newly built International School in Singapore and will be leading their First School. I will be taking a break from education and football coaching in one of Singapore’s elite academies.
Throughout my 20 year career, I have been very fortunate to work with some wonderful people, some brilliant teachers and some highly talented children and none more so than here at Pontygwaith. It has been a privilege to lead such an amazing school and I will miss working with such a great group of staff and children.
I have always enjoyed coming to work and there is not a day goes past when I do not get to see the talents, skills and enthusiasm of our children in some way or another. It is watching young people grow and develop, achieving their potential, realising their ambitions, becoming responsible young adults and citizens that drives every teacher and it has been a great pleasure to contribute to making this happen for so many Pontygwaith children.
Since my arrival in 2016 we have been on an exciting journey at Pontygwaith; a journey that has seen the school go from strength to strength. Staff and children have bought into our TEAM ethos and thanks to the continued support from our fantastic Governing Body and dedicated parents we are now in the top 25% of schools, in Wales. This is a fantastic achievement!
The governors are determined to ensure that we have a period of stability as we plot our way through any potential changes during these unprecedented times and I am delighted to inform you that Miss Chaffe, the Deputy Headteacher, has been appointed to lead the school for the Autumn Term. Mrs Martin will step up as the interim Deputy Headteacher and Mrs Donovan will step up as a member of the senior management team. Miss Chaffe is an experienced Deputy Head and has a long association with the school. She will be ably supported by a very strong leadership team and we can be confident that the school will have a successful future under their guidance.
Finally, I would like to thank you for your continued support and the Governing Body for giving me the opportunity to lead this amazing school. I’ve always said that the children here are a major strength of the school and that’s testament to the fantastic attitude of the parents.
I look forward to hearing about how the children have progressed in the future.
Mark Davies (Headteacher)”
