Living in a global society in flux, we are confronted with issues that do not accept existing solutions and instead demand new ways of thinking. Real-world issues do not necessarily appear within a specific academic discipline. To derive valid policy solutions, interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary perspectives are essential. The Faculty of Policy Management views policy as the "choices and decisions that people make in order to take action" and encourages practical knowledge in which knowledge is formed through social commitment and practice, cultivating the ability to create innovative policies and fostering leaders who will make Japan and the world better places.

Global leaders in the "Century of Environment and Information"
The environment around us has undergone rapid changes in recent years, making predictions difficult and raising uncertainties for the future. This has brought about a situation referred to as VUCA (an acronym for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity). The Faculty of Environment and Information Studies uses cutting-edge science, technology, and design--flexibly integrating them with humanities and social sciences--to understand the earth, nature, life, humans, and society, and to address unsolved issues and create solutions. Through cross-disciplinary learning, we nurture leaders who respond to change, and survive and defy uncertainty to create the future.

The education pursued by the Faculty of Policy Management and the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies encourages students to "think for themselves about what the problem is, develop a method to solve it, and put that method into practice (identifying problems and finding solutions)" rather than being given a question and taught the answer. This is because many of the existing issues need more than just a single academic field such as economics or medicine to solve. Shonan Fujisawa Campus is where students will develop problem-solving skills through cross-disciplinary learning and build a professional foundation to find solutions to complex issues.
